Ticks and Fleas

When summer and beautiful weather comes, there are unfortunately some annoying little critters too - the ticks. Fortunately, there are many different ways to protect yourself and your cat, and several different tools that can remove ticks that have bitten. Ticks can carry bacteria and microorganisms that are pathogenic, so you obviously want to avoid getting bitten. Ticks may not be the world's most adorable animal - it's no fun feeling when you pet your cat and discover a little bump in the coat. Then you look closer and see that the little "bump" has legs - eww! Ticks like to bite our pets, and an outdoor cat that is outside in the grass will easily bring these little ticks home with them. Sometimes you can remove the tick before it bites, when you see that it crawls in the coat, but sometimes they bite very quick. If the tick has bitten, it should be removed as soon as possible. You grab the tick as close to the cat's skin as possible, and pull straight out using a pair of tweezers or a tick remover tool. Some tick tools work in other ways. There are, for example, tick nooses that are put around the tick and tightened, and crowbar models that "bend" away the tick.

For preventative purposes one can use different tick repellers. There are tick repellers with ultrasound that works to repel ticks. These can be put in the cat's collar - they are small and light and do not disturb the cat. This type of ultrasonic tick repellent works with a radius of 1.5 meters.
