Dog Life Jackets

Many people hesitate to get a dog because they think it would be difficult. They think they're restricted to bring their dog everywhere they go, however, they are very wrong. It is indeed possible to bring your dog along to most activities – including at sea. You only need a bit of knowledge and, of course, the right dog equipment.

I have a great interest in boating. Can I still go sailing with dogs?

We have already established that it's not impossible to bring your dog along in most situations. Whether you like sailing, fishing, or staying on your boat, your dog can always accompany you. In fact, many dogs like being on the boat, especially if your pet dog has gotten its premature days to get used to the water. So, if you know you'll be spending a lot of time on the boat, and your dog gets to know the open waters from the very beginning, the two of you will share many happy moments together at sea. All you have to do is make sure your dogs enough shade, water, and cooling whilst on the boat. In addition, be sure to go on land for your dog to get some rest. Although you have a nice time boating together, please remember that 4–5 hours can seem like a lot for your furry friend.

There isn't necessarily any risks to bringing your dog at sea. Puppies and younger dogs should definitely be trained in order for them to get used to water while remaining calm, before venturing to be on open water. However, if your dog is already calm, restrained and well-adjusted to the sea, then a dog life jacket is all you need.

Does your dog need a life jacket?

Yes! If the dog is going by boat, we recommend always wearing a life jacket on the dog. Both you and your dog then travel safely and securely in the boat and should the accident occur, you do not have to worry because you know that you are both safe enough if it or you both would end up overboard. Make sure that the life jacket has quick buckles, lifting handles on the back and strong straps so you have a stable and good life jacket.
Never attach the dog to a regular collar and leash attached to the boat! Should the dog jump or fall overboard, it can then be hung by the boat and pulled down under the water. If you use a life jacket instead, the dog is safe in all situations.

Some dogs that, for example, have some physical worries, or are slightly forward-heavy in the body (many bulldog breeds for example) may also need life jackets as extra safety when swimming in deeper water.

We have a good and qualitative range with life jackets for dogs. You can find a life jacket that can handle dogs that weigh up to 80 kg, so no matter what breed of dog you have, you can take it out with the boat.
