Catnip

Catnip is an herb that strongly interests the cat, and it is cultured and grows wild (even in Sweden but is protected and rare). The catnip we have for the cats is in dried form or liquid. The effects of the catnip can be to make the cat energetic and mischievous, or the cat becomes cozy, cuddly and calm. Catnip has a strong appeal to most cats and can attract the cat to a place that has been sprayed or sprinkled with the herb or invite to play with a toy.

Catnip toys tend to be an appreciated toy for the cat. When the cat smells the catnip, the effects come quickly and last a few minutes up to about a fifteen minutes. Cats can react differently; Some become alert and mischievous, some are barely reacting, some want to roll in the catnip, and some get unusually calm and cuddly. We have soft toys and balls filled with this herb that make some cats absolutely crazy. Some of the toys you can open, and it comes with loose catnip, so you can replenish the catnip. Other toys have catnip on the inside or are sprayed with catnip spray to make the cat interested. There are also cat toys that are completely made of catnip pressed in shapes such as balls or mice. These can be toys that you bring to the cat from time to time, or that lie around the house all the time for the cat to choose when its playtime. Some cats will be completely mad with the toy and play heavily, while others do not feel the effects of the catnip as strongly.

There is catnip in spray form so you can encourage your cat to take an interest in, for example, a cat bed, scratch post, transport cage, toy or other things you want the cat to use. The spray can be used two or three times in a week and the effects last for about 5-20 minutes. It usually takes a few hours before the cat is interested in the catnip spray again after use. Some cats want to rub against the spot that has been sprayed, others like to roll in the scent. Using catnip spray is a clever trick to attract the cat into the transport cage. You can likewise use loose catnip. Sprinkle the loose catnip on the spot or the thing you want the cat to be interested in.
