Puppy Training

When you bring home a new little family member, nurturing and puppy training often starts day one. The puppy will eventually become house clean, walk nice on a leash, be able to sit on command and come when called. But Rome was not built in one day! ☺ Some puppies learn quickly and others take a little longer - and it is a really fun trip to follow the little one from day one to adult. When training your puppy it may be good to have some training tools. On this page you will find training tools and aids for puppy training. ♥

Puppy training is all about what you should teach the puppy to make your life together nice and smooth. That the puppy comes when you call, for example, simplifies life when you are out for a walk and do not have a leash. That the dog can sit or lie down and wait for the command is a good start for agility dogs, hunting dogs, service dogs and all other dogs for continued training. Sit and lie are two commands that are good to teach early. Other fun tricks one can learn the puppy is high five, bow, roll around, back up, play dead and sit nice with the paws in the air.

Another learning step the dog starts with as a puppy is to become a houseclean. This learning curve looks very different for different individuals. Some learn quickly where you should pee and poop, others have a little problem with this in the beginning - which is not so strange. A small puppy has difficulty waiting and controlling his bladder and bowel. This is something that gets easier with time. So one must have a lot of patience with the puppy and definitely not get angry or yell when it happens to make a mistake - the puppy does not know better and can not hold it in when it is time. What you can do to protect the floors and furniture at home is to use a puppy pad. The puppy pad is also a good tool when it is time to teach the dog to become house clean- check out our category for Puppy Pads.

Another part of the puppy training can be leash training and being-alone training. You can start the leash training as soon as you get your puppy - or you can train come-when-called first and let the puppy be loose. When you teach the dog to accept collars, harnesses and leashes, you can start indoors or walk small rounds outdoors. Here at Petster we have leashes, puppy harnesses and adjustable collars for puppies so that the leash training goes as smoothly as possible.
