What is MIPS and how does it work?
MIPS is the abbreviation for Multi-directional Impact Protection System - a system designed to protect your head in the event of a fall from the horse's back.
What distinguishes a helmet with MIPS from a regular helmet is that the regular helmets are designed to protect your head from a linear bang. Namely a bang either straight from the side or straight from above. But when you fall off a horse, you will most likely hit your head obliquely from the side. When you hit your head obliquely from the side, a rotation occurs that ordinary helmets do not take into account. But if you have a helmet with MIPS, the helmet takes care of the rotation that occurs and thus protects your head from getting major injuries.
