Brushes and Combs

Taking care of the cat's coat is something some cats think are super-cozy while others do not enjoy it as much. Regardless of what the cat thinks it is sometimes necessary with a little grooming. On this page you will find combs, brushes and slicker brushes so that you can take care of the cat's coat in the best way possible. Sort out tangles, remove loose fur and dirt, reduce hairball problems and check the skin for ticks and parasites. Those are some of the benefits of regularly brushing or combing the cat's coat.

A brush for the cat can be of many different models. Some models have soft bristles, metal spikes, rubber pegs or plastic spikes. There are also models that are double-sided and have different types of bristles or spikes on different sides. A brush with rubber pegs can be nice to use to massage the skin while sorting out the coat, and some varieties can be used when bathing the cat to distribute shampoo and conditioner in the coat. Before brushing the cat, it is a good idea to detangle any tangles in the coat so that the brush does not get stuck. Tangles can be sorted out with different detangler tools such as detangler splitters, mat knives and dematters - and sometimes with a regular comb.

With a comb you can style the cat's coat, remove dead fur and in some cases even fleas, lice and eggs. A comb with dense teeth can be used for fine and thin fur, while a comb with more space between teeth can be used for coarser, thicker fur. A comb that has very close between the teeth can be used to keep the coat free from parasites such as ticks (which have not yet bitten), fleas and lice. A comb is a very good accessory and is used with advantage before brushing the cat with a brush. Combs come in several different sizes and materials so you can find what suits your cat.

Do you have a cat with a long coat that needs a lot of care? Or a cat that sheds? Then a slicker brush is a good fur tool. A slicker brush has thin metal or steel bristles that can remove undercoat and loose fur from thick coats. It is an excellent tool to use for dogs and cats when it is deshedding season. The slicker brushes small spikes are pulled over the coat and take with them dirt and dead fur very efficiently. Start by brushing the cat's back before you work your way down. Some cats do not appreciate being brushed at all, so then you have to take the opportunity to brush when the cat rests or when it shows that it wants to hang out with you. Give much praise and never get angry with the cat if it doesn't want to be brushed. Other cats think it is really nice to be brushed and are happy to get brushed all over their body.
