First Aid kit and wound care for horse

All stable and horse owners should have a stable pharmacy and first aid kit, and there are many things that can be good to have if the accident should occur.

In the first aid kit it should e.g. there are sterile compresses, bandages, gauze bandages, cotton, alcohol, saline solution and more, for washing and wrapping wounds. Wound powder or gel can be good for disinfecting wounds, and various ointments can be used to soften and keep flies away from the wound. A pair of scissors is not only good for cutting bandages, but also for cutting fur around wounds, which makes for easier access. A pack of disposable gloves, disinfectant and a headlamp can also be practical, as it prevents you from coming into contact with the wound and thus reduces the risk of infection, while keeping your hands free.

The first aid kit is best stored in a box that is waterproof and shuts out dirt. Remember to always contact your veterinarian in the event of a major injury or if you feel unsure!
