Sweat & Cooler rugs from Horseware

If your horse exerts itself frequently, for example through training or competition, a Sweat or Cooler rug from Horseware is a must! Industry-leading Horseware's Sweat & Cooler rugs are perfect for use during or after training, in transport in warmer weather, while the horse dries off after a shower or to avoid rapid cooling on cold days. For an active life with your horse, a sweat or cooler blanket is a must!

Horseware sweat blankets & Cooler blankets - a dry horse is a happy horse

Horseware Sweat & Coolerrugs are manufactured to conduct moisture from the horse's body during exertion and thus keep the horse's skin dry. At the same time, a Sweat rug counteracts rapid cooling and these properties prevent the horse from freezing and prevent colds. This is of extra importance during the winter months when the horse has thicker winter fur that takes longer to dry. In the stable during colder months, a Sweat rug can be useful to get the horse dry before putting on the turnout rug and going out.

Properties of Horseware Sweat rugs & Cooler rugs

There are several different functions of a sweat rug and these depend on the thickness of the sweat rugand the material it is made of. Some sweat rugs quickly and effectively absorbs moisture, while other sweat rugs are designed to give the horse warmth and avoid rapid cooling. The term “Cooler” in sweat rugs refers to a cooling ability that can help your horse recover more quickly from exertion and is a feature of particular importance during the summer months.

When should a sweat rug be used?

A Horseware sweat rug is primarily made to protect your horse from drafts and cold when it sweats during training, competition, riding, or lunging. It depends on how intense the effort is that determines whether your horse needs to wear the sweat rug. For slower rides, a sweat rug is generally not necessary, but after intense training or competition, it is a necessity. A sweat rug can also be used to prevent your horse from growing a thick winter coat by wearing it around the clock from October, but not during training. This prevents the horse from freezing and thus reduces the growth of the coat.

How long should my horse wear a sweat rug?

It should simply be on until the horse stops sweating. The Horseware sweat rug directs the sweat to the outside and you can see small drops on the outside of the sweat rug. This process is different for each horse depending on how intense the exercise was and the thickness of the horse's coat. You can check if the horse is dry by occasionally putting your hand between the horse's back and the sweat rug. If the sweat rug is used to counteract the development of thick winter fur, the sweat rugmust be worn around the clock, in addition to during training, from October.
