• Sorbact compresses
• Upholstery wadding
• Gas bandage
• Vetrap
• Cotton roll
• Disposable gloves
Treatment:
- Before treatment, a veterinarian should be contacted. In case of gaping wounds or wounds that are close to the vertebral joint, crown joint and hoof joint, the veterinarian should be contacted immediately.
- To prevent the wound from becoming infected by hairs, the surrounding area should be trimmed.
- The wound can then be cleaned by spraying saline directly into the wound and by soaking cotton.
- Then apply the Sorbact compress to the wound, which is a bacteria- and fungus-binding wound dressing. The Sorbact compress can also be used for preventive purposes.
- Then start bandaging with padding, which keeps the rest of the bandaging and compress stable.
- Then take a suitable length of the cotton roll and wrap it over the padding.
- Then lightly bandage with an inelastic gauze pad. Do not tighten. Also wrap over a vetrap. Note! As vetrap is an elastic and adhesive wrap, they must not be tightened to avoid damage to the tendons.
- To prevent dirt from getting into the bandage and for extra attachment, tensoplastic adhesive tape can be taped to the skin and the bandage ring. Use with care as this wrap is very strong and elastic. It must not be placed over the vertebral joint, crown joint or hoof joint.
If the bandage is kept dry and clean, it can last up to 3 days.
